On Tuesday 29th April 2014, two days after the celebration of the Divine Mercy feast of Dayasagar, we two priests of the Divine Mercy Shrine popularly known as Dayasagar, invited a group of five families at the request of our bishop, Mar Anthony Chirayath. They had particularly helped us among others to organize the feast of Dayasagar with much sacrifices and generosity. The idea was to thank them by inviting them for a meal and to discuss and evaluate the Divine Mercy Feast day in order to organize future annual celebrations in a better way with popular participation. There were nineteen of us altogether including parents, children, priests and sisters for this gathering. All the five families wanted to continue their support and cooperation in promoting the Divine Mercy devotion in the diocese of Sagar.
The gathering began with a Divine Mercy Chaplet in Dayasagar chapel. After the chaplet, our Bishop invited all of us for a meeting in the Parlour. Our Bishop surprised all of us when he said as soon as we sat down for the meeting: So this will be the first meeting of the Apostles of Divine Mercy. Then he explained why this term Apostles is so apt for our group, because as the twelve apostles of Jesus who had a passion to proclaim the Risen Lord, so these men and women are passionate to promote the Divine Mercy devotion in the diocese of Sagar centered on the Divine Mercy Shrine of Sagar. Thus the association of the Apostles of Divine Mercy (ADM) was born on 29th April 2014 in the parlour adjacent to the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel of Khajuria Guru.
Bishop said that this association is an initiative of lay persons and it will remain so with the support and blessings of the local Bishop and the parish priests. The meeting decided to prepare a constitution and get it approved by the Bishop and go out to parishes and form small groups of ADM in every parish. Bishop later appointed the Rector of the Shrine as Spiritual Director of the association and promised his encouragement and blessings. We appeal to all men and women devoted to Divine Mercy to extend their whole hearted support for this noble cause. Jesus, we trust in you!
